By the shores of Gitchee Gumee
By the shining big sea water. . .
Abby Sunshine recently traversed the shores of Lake Superior, causing us to think of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow‘s ever-popular poem, The Song of Hiawatha.
She ran and played on the beaches as if it were her own backyard. She didn’t seem to mind that the average water temperature of this, the largest of all freshwater lakes in the world, is only about 40 degrees Fahrenheit. She frolicked and played with enthusiasm.
Obviously, her special coat has something to do with her comfort. She is a Northern breed, equipped to stay warm in the winter and in very cold conditions.
How did Hiawatha handle these chilly conditions? I need to read the whole poem- have you?
What else do you know about Hiawatha?
